One of New Zealand's most famous bands is celebrating its 125th anniversary later this year with a special celebration dinner and concert.
Tohea kia kaha
Woolston Brass has one of the proudest histories in antipodean banding — founded in 1891 with its Maori motto, Tohea kia kaha (Persevere, so there is Strength) certainly being lived up to over the intervening years — from their first National title success in 1909.
Today they are recognised as one of New Zealand's most enduring performing arts institutions and to celebrate their achievements both on and off the contest stage they will be holding a series of 125th anniversary event.
Centre piece
The centre piece will be the special 125th anniversary concert on Saturday 8th October in their home city of Christchurch which will showcase their distinguished history under the direction of current MD, Tyme Marsters.
It will be followed by the celebration dinner where past and present members, supporters and brass band lovers will enjoy themselves led by MC John McGough and special guest speaker Gary McCormick.
