New look and new sound for Easington

The generosity of the local community and charities has enabled Easington Colliery Band to give themselves a much needed sight and sound spruce up.

Easington Colliery
There will be a new look and sound to Easington Colliery thanks to generous financial support from the local community.

Easington Colliery Band has announced that they have received a number of generous financial grant donations towards their aim of purchasing new instruments to replace their current ageing stock.

New instruments

Assistance from the North East Area Miners Social Welfare Trust Fund, Sir James Knott Trust, County Durham Community Foundation and the Hedley Foundation have enabled the band to recently purchase a set of four tubas, three tenor horns and two cornets.

The band has also took delivery of new jackets and ties with help from Persimmon Homes and the local Parish Council, with a sizeable chunk of money raised by the local community at a recent fundraiser held at the Miners Welfare.

Generosity

Commenting on the generosity shown, band spokesperson Sally Scott told 4BR: "We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local people and charities in their ongoing support of the band and the community in general.
