The world's number 1 ranked band can now boast an extra bit of academic musicality in its ranks after Cory's principal BBb tuba Rob Nicholson (right) and second euphonium Matthew Fletcher recently gained their undergraduate degrees from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff.
Finest and First
Rob, originally from the Isle of Wight, joined the Cory bass team almost as soon as he started college in 2012 and has gone on to develop a reputation as one of the finest exponents of the instrument in top level banding, whilst Matthew, not only gained a 'First' in his studies, but has since successfully auditioned to join the Royal Marines.
Excellent students
Musical Director Philip Harper told 4BR: "Rob and Matthew are exemplary members of the band — totally committed to give of their best on every occasion. They have both been excellent students at the college and fully deserve their accolades.
We are all delighted for them as they are now well set up for fine musical careers."

Euph replacement
He added: "In Matthew's case, and unfortunately for Cory, it means he will leave the band in a couple of months, although we look forward to having him on the team for a few more concerts and the British Open.
In the meantime we are opening applications for a new second euphonium player to work alongside Glyn Williams — so our search begins now!"
