Beaumont steps down from Presidential role at Brighouse & Rastrick

One of the major driving forces behind two decades of Brighouse & Rastrick success has decided to step down from the role.

Brighouse

4BR has been informed that Paul Beaumont, a major driving force behind Brighouse & Rastrick for the past 18 years, has stepped down from his position as Band President.

The recently retired technology entrepreneur (pictured left with composer Kenneth Downie) who is credited with a number of successful technology start-ups and turnarounds throughout his professional career, took on the influential role in 1998 when, as Managing Director of two divisions of Motorola's Europe, Middle East and Africa business, he sponsored the band's successful European title defence in Munich.

Honoured

He commented: "I have been honoured to hold the position of President of Brighouse & Rastrick for the last 18 years. It is a wonderful institution and I'm privileged to have been part of a dedicated and expert team that has steered the band through the most recent phase of its development.

It is now time to bring in a new face, with new ideas and the energy to take over. I wish the team and my successor all the best for the future."

Substantial success

During his tenure as President, the band enjoyed substantial success — including five Yorkshire Regional titles, three National Championships wins at the Royal Albert Hall, a brace of victories at Brass in Concert and All England Masters — all following that initial successful European defence in 1998.

The band also enjoyed itself at the Whit Friday March contests and gained critical acclaim for its artistic links to groups such as The Unthanks.

It is a wonderful institution and I'm privileged to have been part of a dedicated and expert team that has steered the band through the most recent phase of its developmentPaul Beaumont

Family time

Paul and his wife, Julie, who was also heavily involved with the band, intend to spend more time with their children and grandchildren, both in Scotland and Dubai. 4BR understands that he will remain a member of the Yorkshire Regional Brass Band Committee.
