The Ohio Brass Festival recently celebrated its 10th anniversary blessed with the finest weather it has enjoyed since becoming an outdoor event four years ago.
Relaxed
Relaxed audience members were able to stay refreshed in the shade, drinking margaritas at the local Mexican restaurant or pints of local beer at the nearby brewery while they enjoyed the performances of seven bands and two ensembles.
The day started with the Salvation Army Corps Band from Chapel at Worthington Woods and Scioto Valley Brass and Percussion, who provided the type of wide contrast of music that would be heard throughout the day.
In between the competing bands two smaller ensembles performed: A Little Wind Music (Barrie, Ontario, Canada) and the NaCHo Band (an small ensemble that support Nationwide Children's Hospital).
Competitors
The five bands that competed for the coveted OBAF Cup certainly gave adjudicators Zach Collins and Rita Arendz plenty to ponder, compare and contrast, whilst Zach was also the featured soloist later in the day performing Kevin Norbury's 'Badinage' while the results were tallied.
An enjoyable contest saw Central Ohio take the title for the second time in three years under the baton of Jessica Sneeringer, who topped defending champion Brass Band of Columbus and the current U.S. Open title holders, Dublin Silver.
