VBS Poynton determined to recover after flood damage

The VBS Poynton Band is looking ahead to Cheltenham despite the recent major flood damage that wrecked their bandroom.

Poynton

The Vernon Building Society (Poynton) Band, the current North West Area First Section champion, has endured a major blow ahead of their appearance at the National Finals in Cheltenham in September.

Recent major flood damage to their bandroom which they share with Poynton Youth Band, has seen over 50% of their library lost, with over 800 sets of music damaged beyond repair.

Soul destroying

Percussionist, Dave Johnson who oversaw the clean-up operation told 4BR: "It was soul destroying to have to throw away so many pieces of music, including original handwritten scores and parts from the 1920's."

However, the band refuses to be downbeat and they are now busy fund raising for their Cheltenham appearance as repairs from insurance cover take place.

Fund raising

Band Chairman Gary White added: "We need to raise over £4,000 and any donations from individuals or companies will help us achieve that target."
