Stalybridge Old looks to raise £20,000 for something new

The oldest brass band in the world is looking towards the future by trying to raise £20,000 for a new Stalybridge Brass and Percussion Academy.

Staybridge Old

Stalybridge Old Band is to use the Just Giving initiative to help raise £20,000 to establish and develop a Stalybridge Brass and Percussion Academy.

It is hoped that a successful appeal will enable the band to offer the chance for anyone, regardless of age or experience, to enjoy and learn to play whilst also developing further the organisation's Senior, Youth, Training and a Community Brass Band.

Keeping alive

The instigator behind this initiative is MD David W Ashworth, who told 4BR: "It's extremely important when music lessons and tuition in schools in our area has been cut, for as many bands as possible to establish this type of Music Academy to keep the interest and art of brass playing alive."

The Stalybridge Old Band was founded in 1809 and is listed as the oldest civilian brass band in the world.
