There is a busy weekend ahead for Black Dyke as the Yorkshire champion performs in concert in Nottingham this evening and at their own Black Dyke Festival in Leeds on Sunday.
Under the baton of Director of Music, Prof Nicholas Childs, the band visits Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall on 4th June to support the Urostomy Association charity which helps people who have suffered with bladder cancer.
European triumph
The concert sees Black Dyke return to the venue of a memorable European triumph, after winning the title under the late Major Peter Parkes here in 1987. The band also played at an equally memorable centenary celebration concert for the composer Eric Ball in 2003.
The Final Journey
Less than 24 hours later, the band will be hosting its own Black Dyke Festival at Leeds Town Hall, where a full day of tuition and masterclasses will be rounded off by a remarkable afternoon concert (3.00pm) featuring the world premiere of a work entitled 'The Final Journey' that commemorates to the very day in 1916, the sinking of HMS Hampshire, with the loss of over 600 lives.
Players from the Yorkshire Youth Band, Armthorpe Elmfield, Blackley, Delph, Kirton and Trentham will enjoy the opportunity of joining the band on stage for the Gala Concert, whilst prior to the event, players as well as conductors will be able to enjoy the expert tuition and workshop help from Prof Childs and some of his star players.
