Colin Herbert, the Musical Director of Wilton & District Band, is stepping down after eight successful years with the West of England band.
The former military bandsman joined Wilton as only its second conductor after the retirement of Dennis Chalk, who had held the baton for 43 years since its formation.
Passion
A spokesperson told 4BR: "With his passion for performing, his musicality and conducting ability, Colin guided the band from the Fourth Section to the Third, culminating in the band's first ever top-six finish at the Regional Championship at that level this year.
Under his direction the band also qualified for the Fourth Section National Final in 2012 and 2013, perform well in other contests and perform widely enjoyed concerts. He also oversaw the band's 50th anniversary celebrations last year, which included a packed celebratory Reunion Concert.

Dedication
The spokesperson added: "For the last five years Colin's dedication has been further demonstrated through his 200+ mile round trip for each rehearsal. However, he now feels the time is right to pass the baton to a new conductor."
