Windcorp enjoy memorable Whit Friday weekend

The Windcorp Band from Sweden certainly enjoyed a memorable Whit Friday weekend...

The Windcorp Band has returned to Sweden after a memorable tour to the UK that not only took in a joint concert with their friends at the Fairey Band, but also saw them become Uppermill Whit Friday champion.

Knight Templar

Under the direction of MD Andreas Kratz the band topped to results table at one of the iconic venues on the Saddleworth circuit — giving a thrilling rendition of 'Knight Templar' that beat off no less than 51 other rivals — including Whit Friday giants Brighouse & Ratsrick and Fairey themselves.

It is believed that they are the first European band ever to win the title at the event — whilst they came close to making it a 'double' in coming second at Dukinfield on the Tameside circuit.

Joint concert

The weekend was rounded off with the joint concert with Fairey Band in Glossop Parish Church, where the bands gave a packed audience marvellous entertainment — ranging from film music to the obligatory medley of Swedish favourites ABBA.

We would like to thank Prof Garry Cutt for inviting us to Glossop and giving us such a great experienceMD, Andreas Kratz

Thanks

MD Andreas Kratz told 4BR: "We had a simply fantastic time — especially as we were also invited to the Major Peter Parkes Celebration Concert in Oldham.

We would like to thank Prof Garry Cutt for inviting us to Glossop and giving us such a great experience.

We would also like to thank the British soprano legend Nigel Fielding for sharing his splendid skills while playing with us during the weekend."
