The brass banding movement has been shocked to learn of the death of the popular bandsman Mark Rodgers (above), who passed last week. He was aged just 40.
Mark played both Bb & Eb cornet with numerous bands; including Ashton-under-Lyne, Black Dyke, Brighouse & Rastrick, British Aerospace, British Telecom, Delph, Diggle, Hepworth, Leyland, Marsden Silver, Point of Ayr, YBS and latterly, Uppermill.
Talent
He studied at Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester under John Hudson and Roger Webster and later successfully added a MA degree at Huddersfield.
His talent was recognised by many leading conductors over the years, whilst his outgoing personality and generosity of spirit gained him friends wherever he played — due much to the fact that he was one of the banding movement's 'go to' players to help bands out in any circumstances.
Moved
Mark's parents, Bob and Mary have been deeply moved by the outpouring of love and affection that has been shown to them at this time through the countless tributes, messages and touching memories that have been shared by people from all areas of the banding world.
A host of bands gave their own musical tributes at their own rehearsals this week.

Funeral details
The funeral details will be formally announced when known, whilst Bob and Mary also confirmed that the Delph Whit Friday march contest, which they so splendidly run, will go ahead as planned this weekend in tribute to their much loved and missed son.
