Report & Results: 2016 Leicester BBA Solo & Duet

There was plenty of top quality playing on show at the recent Leicestershire Brass Band Association Solo, Duet & Quartet contest.

Another fine day of music making took place in the halls of Groby Community College in Leicester last weekend for the annual Solo, Duet & Quartet contest hosted by the Leicestershire Brass Band Association.

Whilst the overall number of entries suffered a little this year, losing some regular contributors to St George's Day parades, there was still a fine show of musical talent on display. In particular, bass trombonist Stephen Lomas from Brighouse & Rastrick performed at the highest quality to secure both the Open Slow Melody and Air Varie titles.

Thanks

Adjudicators Chris Groom, Sharon Stansfield and Mark Smith commended all the performers for their musical contributions, whilst also paying thanks to the many parents and family members present for their support.

Once again, a strong field of performers from the ranks at Shirland Welfare Training saw their young musicians secure a fine haul of silverware.

Looking forward

The Leicestershire Association now looks forward to their next two competitions — a Members' Solo, Duet & Quartet competition in October, as well as the annual LBBA Open Brass Band contest, which is to be held at a brand new venue (Leicester Endowed Schools) on 20th November.

In particular, bass trombonist Stephen Lomas from Brighouse & Rastrick performed at the highest quality to secure both the Open Slow Melody and Air Varie titles4BR
