Royal Marines get Morrison march

The Royal Marines Association Concert Band will gain a march, trio and a few solo spots head start on rivals with their appearance with 'The Wizard of Oz', James Morrison

James Morrison

The Royal Marines Association Concert Band has announced that they will be gaining a march on rival promoters by performing with 'The Wizard of Oz', James Morrison in June.

The eagerly awaited concert appearance of the amazing Australian multi-instrumentalist will take place on Sunday 26th June at 7.30pm at the Assembly Hall, Worthing — a few months ahead of his return to these shores later in the year.

1800 years

Joining him will be The Royal Marines Association Concert Band, which comprises many former Royal Marines musicians — which together can muster almost 1800 years (that's correct!) of musical service to Queen and Country.

Many members of the band served on HM Yacht Britannia, and later in their second careers, as senior music teachers and players in various bands and orchestras.

If all of this wasn't enough, also performing will be the Corps of Drums from The Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines Collingwood.

Amazing prospect

Director of Music, Major Tony Smalwood MA PGDip BMus LRSM RM, told 4BR: "We are delighted at the prospect of performing with the amazing James Morrison.

I was lucky enough to perform with James and the Royal Australian Navy Band in South Australia 16 years ago, and can't quite believe that I will perform with him again in a few months' time."

Programme

An exciting programme will feature the Concert Band, Big Band, and the s Jazz Trio who accompany the Australian, as well as performing their own selection of classic marches, a traditional Royal Marines 'Sunset Ceremony' and a 'Last Night of the Proms' finale.

Tony added: "The Band has only recently performed in the 900 seat Worthing Assembly Hall — a complete sell out concert — and I urge people to purchase their tickets early in order not to miss out on what is going to be a sensational evening of music."
