The West Midlands Brass Band Association will be holding its first Solo, Duet & Quartet Contest on Sunday May 8th.
Time and place
The contest will take place at at Studley High School, Crooks Lane, Studley (B80 7QX) and will feature numerous Slow Melody categories from youngsters to adults, duets, air-varies and quartets (including a hymn tune section).
There has been an excellent response with entries so far, but there is still time to accommodate more. The special hymn tune quartet event has proved especially popular — reviving a somewhat lost art form of brass band playing.
Great prizes and trophies will be presented in all classes, so people can have a lasting memory of the event.
Enjoyable day
Chairwoman, Barbara Dunscombe told 4BR: "We have lost many of the festivals and competitions in the area and this is an attempt to hold an enjoyable day and promote playing that encourages development.
We hope to encourage those early in their banding careers as well as more experienced players to join in what is intended to be a supportive and enjoyable day."
