University of Salford to host Brass Workshop and Slow Melody events

The University of Salford is to host a Brass Workshop Day and a Slow Melody competition in April — and you can be part of both...

As part of their final year Arts Administration Module, innovative students from the Musical Arts Programme at the University of Salford are promoting a special event.

Brass Workshop Day

A 'Brass Workshop Day' will be held on Saturday April 9th from 10.00am — 3.30pm at the University's Peel Hall, featuring Delph Youth Band, with a workshop led by Black Dyke tuba star Phil Goodwin and Brett Baker, Black Dyke Youth and Junior Trombone Ensembles and featuring a concert from the Matt Brown Brass Ensemble.

The free event is open to all brass players who want to learn new music and develop their playing through workshop activities.

Slow Melody Contest:

The following day (10th April) a Slow Melody contest at Peel Hall. The contest is open to all ages with three sections: 'Under 16's', 'Over 16's' and 'Ensembles'.

Performers can enter as many sections as they like with a £5 fee for each player in each section.

The adjudicator is Brett Baker, with prize money for the podium finishers. There is a warm up room available on the day.

Draws:

The first draw will commence at 10.30am for the 'Under 16's', with the contest commencing at 11.00am. The 'Over 16's' draw will commence at 12.30pm starting at 1.00pm, whilst the 'Ensembles' draw will commence at 2.30pm starting at 3.00pm.
