RNCM students count cost of international success

The RNCM Trombone Choir hopes to raise £5,000 to return to USA for Juilliard School performance.

The prize winning students of the Royal Northern College of Music Trombone Choir are counting the cost of enjoying a hugely successful year of competition.

Prize winners

As reported on 4BR, they recently won the 2016 ITA 'Emory Remington' Trombone Choir competition — and as part of the prize they were invited to return later in the year to perform at the 2016 International Trombone Festival at the world famous Juilliard School in New York.

However, the prize didn't include the costs involved — so the ensemble has to now try and raise over £10,000 to represent both the RNCM and the UK — and have set up a new Just Giving Page with a £5,000 target.

Meant so much

Ensemble spokesperson Josh Cirtina told 4BR: "It was the dream of our wonderful tutor and friend Adrian Morris for his department to win this competition — which is why the achievement meant so much to us all.

Before he died he inspired us and spent so many hours working towards this goal, so for the RNCM trombones to achieve this would be an incredible testament to his fantastic work."
