The forthcoming Ty Cerdd Conference to be held in Bangor in north Wales on Saturday 5th March is looking for some 'pop-up' brass band help.
Important part
The conference is regarded as one of the most important meetings of cultural movers and shakers in Wales, with the nation's successful brass bands playing an ever more important part in its artistic direction — including the hosting of the 2020 European Brass Band Championships in Cardiff.
Tom and Paul
To showcase brass bands leading role, the organisers have asked for help from brass and percussion players to supplement a 'pop-up' band under the direction of Tom Davoren and Paul Hughes, who will perform at various times throughout the day (11.00am — 4.30pm) at Ysgol Tryfan, Bangor.
Delegates will enjoy a day long workshop led by Tom and Paul, comprising full and sectional rehearsals, and an afternoon performance of traditional, well-known and brand new works by Welsh composers including T.J. Powell, Gareth Wood and Tom Davoren himself. The conference will also feature Llanrug Silver who will perform Edward Gregson's 'Essay'.
Packed lunch and stand!
All you have to do is bring along a packed lunch and a music stand!
Brass band talent
Gwyn L Williams of Ty Cerdd told 4BR: "Wales has a fantastically wide geographical spread of brass band talent, and we are proud to join together for a day of Welsh celebration.
We look forward to working with Paul and Tom on this project and are pleased to welcome leading practitioners and composers to our 2016 conference as we continue to promote Welsh music to the world."
