Report & Results: 2016 scaba Solo & Duet Contest:

A fine turn out and some equally fine playing was on show in Burgess Hill last weekend.

35 players from twelve different bands performed 60 solos and duets in Burgess Hill for what proved to be another successful scaba competition.

Congratulations and for a thoroughly enjoyable day went to all the competitors, the scaba team and adjudicator Josh Cirtina, bass trombonist of the Fairey Band, who praised all the entrants for the high standard of playing and enjoyable repertoire.

There were some keen battles on show throughout too — with Madisyn Cave and Braedyn Cave from Tilbury leading the way in the Junior and Youth Slow Melody events, whilst James Emberely of LGB Brass claimed a double in the Senior Slow Melody and Senior Solo contest.

It was also good to see a number of leading players from the area also out their reputations on the line in friendly competition, with Lauren Straker of Friary Guildford and James Parkinson of East London Brass taking senior awards.
