The death has been announced of the former Desford Colliery and City of Coventry Band solo trombone player, Colin Randle.
Hailing from Bedworth, Colin first rose to prominence as a fine tenor horn player, before switching to trombone in the 1970's. He went on to enjoy two highly successful stints with City of Coventry Band under several notable conductors including Albert Chappell and Major Peter Parkes.
Stardust
Many will remember his performance of 'Stardust' at the 1982 Granada Band of the Year, which can still be seen on You-Tube.
As a horn player Colin achieved notable success playing in quartets, with a string of contest victories to his name alongside City of Coventry colleagues including Howard Wilson and Malcolm Teasdale.
Keen cyclist
In his later years, Colin started playing once again helping out, amongst other bands, Jaguar Land Rover in Coventry.
He was also a keen cyclist, although a serious road traffic accident was to leave him badly injured and hospitalised for an extended period of time, an incident from which he never fully recovered.
