Camberley Band has announced the appointment of Mark McLauchlin ACTL as their new Musical Director.
Wealth of experience
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Mark brings a wealth of experience gained on cornet and through conducting. After his many musical highlights and periods with other bands around UK, we now look forward to progressing under his leadership."
The Scotsman is a former Army musician with the bands of the Royal Irish Regiment, the Royal Regiment of Scotland, and the Royal Logistic Corps and is currently serving with the Band of the Irish Guards. After a deployment in Afghanistan, Mark returned to the UK and took up the baton as Musical Director with Haslemere Town Band.
Grateful
The spokesperson added: "We are very grateful to our retiring MD, Robert Cherry, who led us for twelve years, skilfully arranging concert programmes to get the best from the players available to him.
Robert now plans to return to controlling two sticks rather than one and will resurrect his exceptional skills as a percussionist. We hope that his association with the band will long continue."
