A wonderful piece of brass banding history has just been released by the British Film Institute featuring Brighouse & Rastrick Band.

1965

It follows the famous Yorkshire outfit at various times during 1965, and was originally released for broadcast in cinemas the following year. It sees Brighouse & Rastrick in rehearsal, concert and contesting performance under the baton of the great Walter Hargreaves and others such as Dr Denis Wright.

Belle Vue

There is also a wonderful glimpse of the old Belle Vue in Manchester where the band came second to Fairey at the 1965 British Open -complete with Bob's Racers and a forlorn looking captive bear.

Just a few years later Brighouse was World Champion...
