The York Railway Institute Band recently paid tribute to the lifelong service of band member Ian Bruce in front of a sell-out audience at a concert to raise funds for Marie Curie and other supported causes.
Back to 1946
Ian (above) was presented with a fine glass sculpture to mark his election to the role of Honorary President and to recognise his wonderful musical contribution to the organisation that stretches back to 1946.
Over the years Ian has gained wide spread respect for his playing ability on EEb tuba as well as being an industrious committee man, conscientious Secretary and a founding light behind the establishment of a Junior Band.
Stalwart
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Ian and his wife Linda, also a stalwart member of the band for well over 40 years are much loved and respected and it was wonderful to have them in the audience with family to celebrate Ian's remarkable contribution to us."
