Shirebrook Town Council has announced its wide ranging series of brass bands events and attractions for 2016 — opening with its 'Brass in the Park' series of concerts at its bandstand in the town.
The line-up of featured bands will include Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue Concert Band (26th June); Shirebrook Miners Welfare (24th July); Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band (7th August); Market Rasen Res Dev (21st August) and Thoresby Colliery (28th August).
Festival
The council has also announced that the popular 'Shirebrook Town Festival' will also take place on the weekend of the 9th/10th July, with the Gala Saturday evening concert featuring Foden's Band.
The following day the 'Shirebrook Open Brass Band Entertainment Contest' will take place — open to bands from all sections, with a generous prize fund headed by a top prize of £750 as well as section and individual awards.
Dyke return
Meanwhile, following the success of their last visit to the area, it has been announced that in October, Black Dyke will once again perform in concert at Shirebrook Academy School as part of a 'Year of Residency' with Bolsover District Council.
