'Brass Tactics 2', a course for aspiring young brass players, recently took place in Aldbourne, Wiltshire, providing an opportunity for participants to play in a larger band, receive instruction and enjoy playing advice from well known conductor, David Hayward.
New experience
A team of Aldbourne band tutors were also on hand to take responsibility for leading sectional rehearsals with players aged between 8 — 16 who came from Aldbourne, Ramsbury, Cricklade, Swindon Pegasus, Great Western Brass and Cold Ash Bands, as well as youngsters for whom playing with others was a totally new experience.
The music worked on ranged from 'Pastime with Good Company' to Elton John's 'The Circle of Life' from 'The Lion King' musical. Also included were the traditional march 'Blaze Away' and 'Swinging with the Mountain King' which completed the programme presented to family and friends when they attended the end of day informal concert.

Privilege
Throughout the day David worked on various aspects of personal and ensemble practice with the youngsters, and he told 4BR: "It was a real privilege working with such keen young people who demonstrated a great passion and enthusiasm for being part of the brass band movement."
It is now hoped the event will be repeated again next year.
