Poetic return to contesting for West Yorkshire Police

There will be a welcome return to contesting for West Yorkshire Police Band as they plan to make a poetic impression on judges.

West Yorkshire Police Band

The West Yorkshire Police Band has announced they are to return to contesting for the first time in five years under the baton of Musical Director Dave Collins.

Brass Factor return

The band has been invited to compete at the Brass Factor Entertainment contest in Holmfirth and has grasped this opportunity to return to the contesting fray with a programme they hope will be an immediate hit with judges and audience alike.

The band has been working with the poet Kevin Whibley to create a theme taking them on a journey that combines music and poetry. It has seen the commissioning of new works which they will premiere at the event on Saturday 14th November.

Fun and engaging

MD Dave Collins told 4BR: "The band is a group of musicians that entertain audiences all over the country, and we have chosen a programme that is fun as well as being musically engaging."

Breaking myths

Band Manager Simon Marshall added: "It's a pleasure to be invited to play at Brass Factor. We have seen excellent coverage on previous years and the contest is well regarded in the banding world.

We hope to break some myths about policing and banding — so we look forward to seeing everyone there."
