Borders set for Entertainment day in Langholm

17 bands will entertain the judges and the audience at the 15th Borders contest next month.

Langholm

The 15th annual Borders Entertainment Contest will make its second visit to Langholm on Saturday 7th November when 17 bands battle for the Scottish Borders Trophy.

The Scottish Borders Brass Band Association (SBBBA) is organising the event, which will be held in the Buccleuch Centre, Langholm. The first band will be on stage at 10.00am, with the final contender performing at around 6.00pm.

Film music

Borders competitors, Hawick, Jedforest, Langholm, Peebles, Selkirk and St. Ronan's will be joined by eleven other rivals, with each band delivering their 15-minute concert programme for the adjudicators Richard Evans and Charlie Farren to assess.

Each will also have to perform at least one work written for a film in their sets.

Pleasure

SBBBA Vice-Chairman Scott Renwick, told 4BR: "It gives us great pleasure to welcome everyone back to the Buccleuch Centre in the "Muckle Toon" of Langholm.

This has been an historic year of celebration for our hosts, as Langholm Town Band marks its 200th anniversary as a brass band. It's therefore a fitting gesture to bring today's contest back to this splendid arena and be part of such a momentous chapter in the band's history."

The contest is confined to Second, Third and Fourth Section bands with numerous section and individual awards on offer.
