Nigel Seaman takes over the conducting duties at City of Cardiff (Melingriffith).

The City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) M1 Band has announced that the experienced Nigel Seaman has accepted the post as their new Musical Director.

Cheltenham success

Nigel has worked extensively with the band in the past, with the appointment following the partnership's successful return at the National Finals at Cheltenham where they finished runner-up in the First Section.

The appointment of the Cory Band resident conductor follows Gareth Ritter's decision to step down as MD, although he will still be involved with the organisation in an advisory role, as well as a player in the City of Cardiff M2 Band, and as conductor when needed.

Contribution

Band Chairman Alan Gwynant, told 4BR: "Gareth's contribution to the band's development over the last 10 years cannot be overstated.

He has been the cornerstone to its success — taking us from the Third to the Championship Section, winning the National Second Section title along the way. He remains an integral part of the overall organisation."

Enjoyed

Nigel Seaman (above) added: "I have enjoyed a fruitful association with the band over many years.

Thanks to Gareth's wonderful work as MD the foundations have been put firmly in place to carry on developing successfully for what promises to be an exciting future together."
