The Marsden Band has announced the appointment of John Hinckley as their new Musical Director.

Following the departure of Glyn Williams in the summer, the Yorkshire top flight band undertook a search for the right person to build on recent successes, with the former Carlton Main and Marple conductor emerging as the outstanding candidate for the job.

Respected

John was the highly respected flugel horn with Brighouse & Rastrick Band for 18 years before becoming resident conductor with Marple and then leading Carlton Main Frickley for seven years, winning the Yorkshire Area and Grand Shield titles.

Excited

A Marsden spokesperson told 4BR: "The band is excited about our future under John.

There was a big hole left following Glyn's relocation and we are thrilled to have found someone of his experience and standing to fill it and take us forward."

The position at Marsden came along just at the right moment. I'm delighted to have the opportunity to continue to build on the great foundation that Glyn Williams has given the bandJohn Hinckley

Right time

John himself added: "The position at Marsden came along just at the right moment. I'm delighted to have the opportunity to continue to build on the great foundation that Glyn Williams has given the band."

John will make his contesting debut with Marsden at the forthcoming Scottish Open Championship.
