The latest major work from the pen of composer Gavin Higgins will be premiered by the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall on 23rd October.
Fresh from the critical success of 'Dark Arteries', which is currently on tour in the UK, 'Tanze' is a 17-minute four-movement composition inspired a baroque dance suite, and will feature 150 musicians on stage under the baton of conductor Rebecca Millar.
Commission
The work was commissioned by London Music Masters for the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Bridge Project Violin students, and Gavin told 4BR that after 'Dark Arteries' he was delighted to be able to explore another area of dance music.
"The programme for the concert is a celebration of dance throughout the ages, so this was another wonderful way to explore the medium working alongside sound designer Matthias Kispert.
The Baroque era is full of beautiful dance music, so I'm very excited to hear the full 150 musicians on stage performing this piece. I can't wait."
Dark Arteries
Gavin also added that he has been delighted by the critical reception 'Dark Arteries' has received on its current tour.
"Following on from Tredegar at Sadler's Wells, Fairey did a wonderful job at The Lowry, and I'm sure it's going to be the same with Carlton Main Frickley in Bradford and Whitburn in Edinburgh.
The audiences and the critics have taken a real shine to it — so it shows that brass bands can reach out to a new audience."
