Pemberton Old Wigan DW 'B' Band has announced the appointment of Michael Golding as their new Musical Director, following the retirement of Peter Ashley.

New role

Michael will take up his new role this week after fulfilling his commitments with Brighouse & Rastrick, were he has been assistant principal cornet for the past five years.

Michael is currently the Head of Bury Music Service, and also graduated from the University of Lancaster with a degree in a Performance & Conducting, and a Masters Degree in Composition from Salford University.

Perfect candidate

A band spokesperson told 4BR: Following a rigorous audition process, in which we welcomed some truly fantastic candidates, we concluded that Michael's experience, musical ability and rapport with our younger members made him the perfect candidate to take the band on."

They added: "We're confident that Michael's appointment will ensure a bright future for the 'B' Band and he will be a very welcome addition to the Pemberton organisation."
