The highly respected conductor, adjudicator and cornet star Jim Davies has been appointed the new Musical Director of the Skelmanthorpe Band in Yorkshire.

Jim (above) has previously worked successfully with the likes of Drighlington, EYMS, Tongwynlais, Tredegar and Carlton Main Frickley.

Jim told 4BR: "I've been impressed by the set-up and the organisation of the band and I'm looking forward to working hard with them to regain their Championship Section status."

Band spokesperson Adam Turner added: "We are delighted welcome such an outstanding musician to the band — and we are all looking forward to making our debut under him in our first concert at Boarshurst Band Club on the 1st November."
