Elland Silver Band's new 'Adult Brass' class has certainly started off in terrific fashion after they attracted over 20 participants to the launch event.
Tailored tuition
With local councillors on hand to show support, the budding players were invited to introduce themselves and explain why they had come along.
The aim of the scheme is to introduce brass band music making to a new audience, and to offer tailored tuition to a different age profiles.
After a brief demonstration by Elland Youth and Senior Band players, everyone enjoyed their first go at becoming performers — with fantastic early results!
Pilot scheme
The class has been formed initially as a 6 week pilot project to test out if there is any interest within the community — but it seems that Elland has found that it could be about to gain a new influx of enthusiastic players to their ranks.
Fantastic
Programme leader, Sam Harrison told 4BR: "I couldn't believe how many people came along to the launch event. The response has been fantastic and we have had further enquiries this week.
Everyone seems really keen and interested in at having a go and learning a new skill. I can't wait for this week's class."

Five sessions
The scheme will be run for a further five sessions ending in an informal performance to family and friends, before it will be evaluated to determine the next steps and future of the programme.
However, if the launch event is anything to go Elland could well be catering for more brass band players than ever before.
