4BR has been informed that Kapitol Promotions Ltd will clarify the future National Final overview schedule given to competing bands, following queries about public performances of the set-work prior to this year's contest.
Spiriti performances
It is understood that some Albert Hall bands had enquired if there would be any penalty imposed on them, or rivals, in giving a public performance of 'Spiriti' by Thomas Doss, prior to the contest on Saturday 10th October.
The schedule sent to competing bands currently states: '4. The performers (competing bands) agree not to give any public performances of the test piece prior to the contest'.
Open rehearsals
A number of bands had already agreed to give 'open rehearsals' on the work in the run up to the event, some had played it in concerts, whilst at least one had performed it non-competitively at a contest.
The work itself was commissioned for the 2010 European Championship in Linz Austria and has subsequently been performed in public on numerous occasions.
the intention of the schedule, which came into effect with new rules changes implemented in November 2014, was to cover overtly commercial public performances of works specifically commissioned for the National Finals4BR
Intent
However, 4BR has been informed that the intention of the schedule, which came into effect with new rules changes implemented in November 2014, was to cover overtly commercial public performances of works specifically commissioned for the National Final.
No rules were therefore being broken and no penalty would be applied, although Kapitol Promotions Ltd stated they would ensure clarity on the matter is given for future National Contest events.
