Jones ends Gresley partnership

Work relocation sees Simon Jones make difficult decision to leave MD role at Gresley Colliery.

Gresley

4BR has been informed that the successful partnership between MD, Simon Jones and Gresley Colliery Band has come to end following the band's recent appearance at the First Section National Final in Cheltenham (above).

Inspiration

A band spokesman told 4BR: "We are very sorry to lose Simon after three very successful years together, due to his new work commitments. His enthusiasm and commitment to the band has really been an inspiration.

As a conductor or as a player, we know that he'll make a great job of whatever he chooses to do next."

Promotion

Following their second place finish at the Midland First Section Area contest earlier this year Gresley hopes to be in the position to challenge for promotion to the top flight in 2016.

The spokesperson added: "The timing of the departure allows us time to find our next MD to work with us towards our next major contest aims at Butlins and the Regional Championship.

I've enjoyed my time working with a great bunch of musicians and I wish them every success for the futureSimon Jones

Difficult decision

Meanwhile, Simon himself added: "The decision to leave Gresley has been a difficult one for me to make, but my recent relocation to Bristol makes travel to Derbyshire unsustainable in the longer term.

I've enjoyed my time working with a great bunch of musicians and I wish them every success for the future."
