Report & Results: 2015 LBBA Autumn Solo Contest

There was a great turn out of playing talent at Groby Community College with plenty of top notch playing to enjoy in each of the sections.

Shirland

The halls of Groby Community College in Leicestershire were once again filled again with the sound of brass with a wonderful turn out of performers for the annual Leicestershire Brass Band Association's Solo, Duet & Quartet competitions.

Adjudicators Gary Wyatt, Graham Sutton and Stephen Cooper shared out the judging in the 14 sections to consider the prize winners, and between them award the prestigious title of overall Junior Champion.

Talented players

This year it was the talented players from Shirland Welfare Training (above) scooping the biggest haul of silverware; amongst them the newly crowned Overall Junior Champion, BBb tuba player Jack Newborough.

Titles were also retained by Ratby Cooperative in the Open Duet and Quartets, whilst the excellent flugel playing of Rebecca Stonehouse saw her win the Open Slow Melody. Not to be outdone, Steve Barham from Leicestershire Co-operative reclaimed the Open Air Varie honours.

Medals

As is custom each of the participants in the 10 years & under, who were competing in their first contest also received a medal from adjudicator Graham Sutton, who said he 'truly enjoyed each and every one of the 20 performances.'

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The Association would like to congratulate each of the prize winners and particular Jack Newborough who won the Harry Bray Memorial Trophy."
