We have a bit of a mathematical guess quiz for you as it's the National Finals at Cheltenham this weekend — with a fantastic prize of a Tromba Bb cornet (worth over £120.00) for the lucky winner thanks to our friends at Band Supplies.
As there are 70 bands taking part in the four sections, all you have to do is think of the number that equals the combined total of the draw numbers of the four winning bands.
Lowest and highest
The lowest number you can therefore pick is 4 (all four winning bands being drawn number 1 — as if!) and the highest being 70 (all four being the last four bands in each section)
Easy?
Just to recap though.
Example
For example: If Section 1 is won by the band drawn number 4 out of the 17 contenders; Section 2 by number 8 out of the 16 bands taking part; Section 3 by number 12 out of the 18 competitors and Section 4 by number 16 out of the 19 rivals — the winning total would be...40.
Go it?
It's the total we want — not the individual draw numbers for each section.
The lowest number you can pick is therefore 4 and the highest is 70 — with anything in-between.
The person who gets it right — or is the closest above or below, will win the fantastic little plastic cornet. If there is a tie we will stick you all in the hat and pick a winner out.
The Question:
Just pick a number between 4 and 70.

Closing date and time
The closing date and time will be as soon as the draw is posted on 4BR for the First Section on Sunday afternoon (20th September) — so any entries after that will be invalid. You can have as many goes as you want up to that.
Last winner:
The winner of our British Open Swan Lake quiz who knew it was Siegfried who was a leading character from the Swan Lake ballet, a fictitious rural Yorkshire vet and a First World War German defensive line that British soldiers boasted they could hang their washing from — was Gordon Jenkins.
Gordon actually played soprano with Kirkintilloch Band at the contest on the day and is a former winner of the 'Best Soloist' prize at the event.
We will be presenting Gordon with his CDs at Cheltenham this weekend where we will be meeting up for a natter.
