Hutchinson sticks to his principals

Cory principal cornet is delighted with the results of his first solo CD...

Tom Hutchinson

Cory principal cornet Tom Hutchinson has told 4BR of his delight at the release of his debut solo CD, 'In Principal', which was released at the recent British Open Championship in Birmingham.

Major works

It features major works from the pens of Philip Harper, Tom Davoren, Lucy Pankhurst, Dan Price, Christopher Bond and Philip Sparke and has already received critical acclaim from fans and fellow players alike.

He told 4BR: "It's been a dream of mine since a young age to make a CD recording and to now realise it is extremely special — not least as it was recorded with such great colleagues and friends."

Philip Harper, Dan Price and Philip Sparke are well known compositional voices, but it was great to be able to persuade the brilliant talents of Lucy, Tom and Christopher to provide worksTom Hutchinson

New voices

The Besson artist was also keen to ensure that the recording featured new compositional voices.

"The concept was always to feature innovative and fresh music as a way to give the new generation of young brass band composers a platform to showcase their work through the cornet as a solo instrument to a wider audience.

Philip Harper, Dan Price and Philip Sparke are well known compositional voices, but it was great to be able to persuade the brilliant talents of Lucy, Tom and Christopher to provide works."

Enjoy

He added: "It's also been a great honour to record with Cory, so I hope there is something there for everyone to enjoy."
