The Foden's Band has offered its congratulations to their solo baritone player Sarah Lenton who was a recipient of a Harry Mortimer Trust Award at the British Open Championship in Birmingham last weekend.

Outstanding

The Royal Northern College of Music student was nominated by Prof John Miller, Head of the RNCM School of Wind, Brass and Percussion with the trustees of the Award then considering her outstanding involvement and potential future career within the brass band movement.

Overjoyed

Sarah was overjoyed when she received the call from Martin Mortimer, and will now use the £500 trust award, which was presented to her by trustee David Read MBE, to fund a commission for baritone and band from the American composer Nate Kimball.

New commission

She told 4BR: "I'm extremely flattered to be given this award as the standard at the RNCM is very high.

I'm also looking forward to working with Nate Kimball on my commission which will be a brilliant piece that I will perform with Foden's. I would also like to thank John Miller and the Trust Committee for their decision."

Thrilled
