Five intrepid players from the Yorkshire Imperial Urquhart Travel Band will be hoping take a trip with death in a bid to help raise funds for new uniforms.
Great Escape Banger Rally
The players will be taking part in the forthcoming 'Great Escape Banger Rally', which lasts for three days, starting in Koblenz in Germany, via Colditz Catle near Dresden, Poland and the Czech Republic, before finishing in Munich — a round trip from their home base near Leeds of around over 2000 miles!
They'll be taking part in two cars — although one is a wonderful old hearse (minus passenger) which has been kindly donated by Brian Halliwell, owner of R Banks Funeral Services of Wigan.
Sleep in the back
A spokesperson told 4BR: "It's a great way to raise funds for the band — and our thanks go to Brian for being so supportive in such a great way.
It's a sure fire way for us to get noticed — although we don't think we will sleep in the back on the way. It's big enough for a few instruments so we can keep out lips in though!"
