Elland set to stump rivals

If you fancy your chances with a crimson warbler and a bit of willow to beat the players of Elland Silver then now's your chance...

Elland

Elland Silver Band is throwing down a sporting gauntlet to rivals — with announcement that they would like to find a band that can take them on at cricket!

Young and old, players and cake eaters alike can come along for a fun day taking place on Sunday, August 9th at Spen Victoria Cricket Club in Cleckheaton in West Yorkshire.

Take us on

Organiser Marianne Clough told 4BR: "It started as a conversation around the dinner table with my cricket loving sons one night. After a discussion of our strengths we thought we had better see how good we were — so any band wishing to take us on, please get in touch!"

The day will start at 1.45pm with an eight-overs a side kids' and beginners soft ball match. Then, at around 3.30pm there will be an adults 20/20 game.

No entry fee

Marianne added: "There will be no entrance charge or paying to play. Any money made for the band funds will come purely through refreshments.

So, if you can eat cake or sausages or bowl a googly or two we need you there to make a great day of it!"

There will be teas served throughout the afternoon and a barbecue and the club bar will be open. One band member is even taking about bringing his steam train.
