The Durham Light Infantry Museum open air contest attracted a fine field of 15 bands on the weekend, with Easington Colliery taking the top flight honours and Houghton Brass and Houghton Area Schools leading the way in the Class B and Youth Sections.
Hat trick win
Easington's finely structured 20 minute programme made it a hat trick of wins at the event, which is supported by the Durham International Brass Festival.
Before the announcement of the results, a certificate was presented to Glenis Smith in recognition of 50 years service in the brass band movement, whilst just twenty minutes after the results the heavens finally opened on what had been a fine day with a torrential thunderstorm.
Adjudicator Alan Fernie congratulated each band on their performances reserving special praise for the two youth bands on display.
