Brass band players from all over the world are currently working hard under the baton of Dr Robert Childs at the North American Brass Band Summer School in Nova Scotia.

They have joined together to perform at Canada's Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo — the world's largest such event, featuring leading musicians and performers from across the globe.

Soloists

The band is taking part for the second successive year under the direction of Dr Childs alongside leading Buffet Group soloists David Childs and Tom Hutchinson.

The NABBSS Band will perform in a series of concerts across the city of Halifax, as well as in massed bands for an audience of over 6000 people.

New music and huge numbers

The band will play alongside the Massed Band of the Canadian Forces, The Band of His Majesty The King's Guard of Norway, Heeresmusikkorps Ulm of Germany and Hemvärnets MusikkÃ¥r Eslöv of Sweden.

New music

More than 30 new brass band arrangements have been commissioned by the Tattoo for the NABBSS Band by Arranger in Residence, Major Denis Burton, former Director of Music of the Band of Her Majesty's Grenadier Guards and now Director of Music of the Band of the Royal Welsh in the UK.

Everyone is having a great time — and looking forward to a quiet spectacular series of concertsDavid Childs

Great time

Euphonium star David Childs told 4BR: "Everyone is having a great time — and looking forward to a quiet spectacular series of concerts.

With so many people involved it's a good job we have our special t-shirts to help pick each other out in the crowds — as we could easily get lost!
