It may be found in the shadow of one of the world's great sporting venues in Twickenham, but the Bandstand at the Corps of Army Music at Kneller Hall has also hosted many of the greatest performers ever to put a pair of musical boots on.
Thumping power
Over it colourful history, the Bandstand has hosted events as diverse as the elegance of the 'Last Night of the Proms' to the thumping power of 'Rock & Pop' — led by some equally talented and colourful conductors such as the likes of Lt Col Frank Renton and Major Peter Parkes.
And on Wednesday the 4th July comes the opportunity for you to hopefully take the first steps along the way to joining them, when the three professional Brass Bands of the Corps of Army Music take to the most famous military music stage of all alongside the Household Troops Band of the Salvation Army.
The concert will be the culmination of this year's 'Summer Academy' — a fantastic recruitment event which has already created a great deal of interest from all corners of the globe.
Rehearse and perform
Students who have already accepted their invitation to attend the day will have the chance to rehearse and perform alongside the Prince of Wales's Division Band as well as taking part in masterclasses, marching band and social activities.
There will also be an opportunity to see the Household Cavalry Band perform the immensely impressive 'Beating Retreat' — a fantastic marching display in the band's full ceremonial dress.
FREE
All this and the event is totally free!
Not only that — but the guys at Kneller Hall will accommodate and feed you, as well as arrange train travel for you to get to and from the Summer Academy — so all you need is a little bit of spending money and a healthy appetite to enjoy a great day.
