The 8th National Australia Brass Festival — NABFEST 2015, including a programme of workshops, rehearsals and master classes is to be held at Wesley College, Melbourne from June 30th to July 4th.
Gala concert finale
The player personnel for the event are once again drawn from the Federation of Australasian Brass Bands Registry to include 48 of Australia's finest brass musicians and performers.
The week-long event will culminate in a NABfest Gala concert, conducted by Professor David King, which will take place in St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne on Saturday evening, July 4th.
Major soloists and compositions
Sponsored by Geneva Instruments, it will feature international guest soloists, Martin Winter (Norway) and Glenn Van Looy (Belgium) and will include performances of two major works for the brass band medium.
Glenn told 4BR: "It's a great honour to be performing with National Australia Brass as part of the 8th National Australia Brass Festival, and also represents an exciting opportunity for both Martin Winter and myself to work together for the first time as soloists".
Divine music
In addition to the eagerly awaited solo appearances of two of the brass world's finest exponents, the majestic acoustic of St Paul's Cathedral will resonate to Edward Gregson's masterful homage to the musical heritage of brass band composition in 'Of Distant Memories', and the world premiere of 'Inferno' by NAB Associate Composer, Todd Smith.
It takes inspiration from the 14th century poem 'The Divine Comedy' by Dante Alighieri, which describes in immense canticas, his vision of Hell, Purgatory and Paradise and the soul's journey towards God.
A spokesperson added: "National Australia Brass greatly acknowledge the support of their patron Dame Adrienne Stewart and NABfest collaborative partners Geneva Instruments for what promises to be an exciting and ground breaking week of outstanding musicianship."
