The newly organised Dutch Open Brass Band Championship will take place in Lawei Drachten on Saturday 13th June with bands from Holland, Belgium and Germany taking part.
Cross border battle
The Championship Section event promises to be an exciting battle for the honours with the Dutch favorites of Brass Band Schoonhoven (Guy Audenaert) and Brass Band Rijnmond (Erik van der Kolk) up against Belgian rivals Brass Band Buizingen (Luc Vertommen).
Although there is only the one band taking part in the First Division, there is likely to be an entertaining Second Division contest with Cologne Concert Brass from Germany taking on a quintet of Dutch contenders.
Ambitious works
A number of ambitious works will be heard in each 30 minute programme, which must include a major test piece and featured soloist.
These will include 'Audivi Media Nocte' (Oliver Waespi); 'Chivalry' (Martin Ellerby); 'Earthrise' (Nigel Clarke); 'Feeling Young' (Bertrand Moren); 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' (Peter Graham); 'Lake of the Moon' (Kevin Houben); 'Purcell Variations' (Kenneth Downie); 'Shine as the Light' (Peter Graham); 'The Pilgrim' (Josiah Walters) and 'Turris Fortissima' (Steven Ponsford).
Prizes
Sponsors Yamaha will be presenting a prize of a concert and attendance at the Yamaha Brass Clinic 2015 for the winning bands in each section, whilst Geneva will offer a workshop and concert by Geneva-artist Ben Godfrey for the runner-up in the Second Division event.
Hal Leonard/De Haske will add prizes for the runner-up in the Championship Section and for the third placed band in the Second Division.
The adjudicators are Arfon Owen and Philip Harper.
