Fernie inspires Granite building

Alan Fernie has been inspiring the players of the Granite City Community Band on his recent visit.

Granite City Community Band has just enjoyed a great musical visit from composer and conductor Alan Fernie.

It came about after Alan generously offered to visit Aberdeen for free to help the band in their musical development after they gave a fine performance in the non competitive section at the Scottish Championship.

True to his word, Alan made the trip — and two fun and informative packed hours sped past as he put the band through its paces, with Community Band Manager Lorna Noble telling 4BR: "It was just amazing — and everyone had a great time — especially Alan!"

Vital encouragement

Lorna added: "His conducting style is so good and easy to follow, and he gave the band the type of vital encouragement we need to carry on our development.

He's so encouraging he got us playing like never before. We can't wait to take him up on any offers he has again!"
