Childs set for test of Whit

Dr Robert Childs aims to enjoy himself judging at the forthcoming Whit Friday contest in Dobcross.

Bob Childs

Dr Robert Childs has told 4BR that he aims to enjoy himself at the forthcoming Whit Friday contests this year after coming to the aid of the Dobcross Contest.

Iconic venue

Due to the unfortunate withdrawal of David Horsfield due to ill health, Bob was contacted by the event organisers to see if he fancied a day listening and judging the bands at one of the iconic venues on the Whit Friday circuit.

After checking his diary he was delighted to find that he was able to undertake the role — the first time he has done so at the famous event.

I wish David a speedy recovery, but I'm going to enjoy listening to 70 plus bands tackle some great Whit Friday marchesDr Robert Childs

Fantastic occasion

"I haven't been to the contests for a little while and this was too good an opportunity to turn down," Bob told 4BR. "It's such a fantastic occasion to be part of in any capacity — but to be asked to judge is a great honour.

I wish David a speedy recovery, but I'm going to enjoy listening to 70 plus bands tackle some great Whit Friday marches."
