Buchan takes new role with Harrogate

Craig Buchan has been appointed the new MD of the Harrogate Band

Harrogate

4BR has been informed that Craig Buchan has been appointed as the new Musical Director of the Harrogate Band.

The former player has been conducting the North of England Championship Section band since December but now takes on the role on a permanent basis.

Well known

The Harrogate based conductor has a BA (Hons) in Music and an MA in Composition from Salford University and has also been the Bandmaster of the renowned Leeds Central Band of the Salvation Army since 2005.

Craig also runs his own financial services business and is perhaps better known in brass band circles as the Managing Director of the brass musical instrument company, Geneva Instruments.

Together

He told 4BR: "I've thoroughly enjoyed leading the band and expanding and developing our repertoire together.

There's a group of committed friendly players here who are great to work with and Harrogate's a culturally vibrant place with a variety of festivals and a rich array of musical and artistic groups. I'm keen we make the most of all the opportunities the town can give us."

Delighted

A band spokesperson added: "We are delighted to officially welcome Craig to his new role.

Rehearsals are fun and focussed and he brings a supportive environment which brings out the best in the players."
