The latest World of Brass – 4barsrest.com show significant movement throughout following recent contests around the banding world. Most notable, although there is no change of position at the very top, was Black Dyke’s victory at the European Championships, which takes it to within 150 points of Cory’s total, so it’s all to play for in the big autumn contests in Birmingham and London.
The three bands immediately below ‘Dyke’ in Freiburg — Brass Band Willebroek, Burgermusik Luzern and Eikanger-Bjørsvik — all move back into the top ten, while Wellington’s victory at the Australian National takes the New Zealand band back into the top 50.
The other ranking contests taking place since the last update were:
Grand Shield — won by Rothwell Temperance
Senior Cup — won by Jaguar Land Rover
Senior Trophy — won by Rainford
Irish Championship — won by Lourdes Brass Band;
Buxton Festival — won by Bollington;
Northern Ireland Brass Band League — won by Downshire Brass.
The next update will include next weekend’s All-England Masters International and a brace of entertainment contests in Scotland during June at Troon and West Lothian.
