Friary Guildford claim mayor award

A major promotion and a Mayor award means the success continues for Friary Guildford Band.

mAYOR AWARD

The Friary Guildford Band was recently honoured with a Mayor’s Award for Service to the Community.

Promotion

Just ahead of their successful promotion clinching performance at the Senior Cup in Blackpool, which secured the band a place at the Grand Shield in 2016,, Friary’s Public Relations Officer, Tim Straker received a certificate on behalf of the band from the Mayor of Guildford, Cllr David Elms.

Friary had been nominated for the award by Shirley West, Chair of the Guildford & Godalming branch of the British Heart Foundation. The band has performed at a hugely succesful Christmas concert for the organisation for a number of years, as well as raising funds for a number of other good causes.

The players love performing — they are amateurs in the true sense of the word — but it’s particularly pleasing that in doing so, they can also help others as well as provide enjoyment for the audienceTim Straker

Marvellous

“It was a marvellous surprise to receive this recognition,” admitted Tim.

“The players love performing — they are amateurs in the true sense of the word — but it’s particularly pleasing that in doing so, they can also help others as well as provide enjoyment for the audience.”
